Why doesn't this seem right to me?

This doesn't seem right to me. I don't know why.

"We welcomed The Mayor to our new premises to officially open our factory doors. Alongside The Mayor, we were pleased to be joined by the CEO of a finance company."

Does it imply that the Mayor was also pleased to be joined by CEO?

Thanks

Top answer

No, "alongside" means that the CEO attended alongside the Mayor. I would not capitalise "the" in "the Mayor".

I think "We were also pleased" implies that we were also pleased that the Mayor joined us, but we haven't already mentioned being pleased that the Mayor joined us.
