Why does "some of requirements" sound funny? - reposted

Hi,

I'm a native English speaker and I know that 'some of requirements' sounds funny and that 'some of the requirements' does not. Also, 'some requirements' also sounds fine.

Why is that?

My guess is that it is because the preposition 'of' needs a definite article ('the'), but I don't know why a preposition needs a definite article (and whether it's only in this case, or in all cases that all prepositions, or just the preposition 'of', needs to have the definite article in English, which is 'the' after it).

Thanks for any help/reflections/answers and/or links to answers that you might provide!

~ Brad

PS Re-posting this... I went and registered after seeing the complaint that too many people post anonymously. Hope this makes someone happier and that you can delete the other post!

The reason, I believe, why that happens, is because you make it so easy to post anonymously (which is great btw), but you should remind people on the 'post' page (very prominently) to register first. Even better, a BIG button that says, "Post this response and register me" (with text underneath that says, "registering is very simple and only requires a username, email, and password-takes 30 seconds") and then in addition to that big button, another small underlined link (no button) that says "Post this response anonymously" (with "please don't use unless you really have to-please register instead, it only takes a few seconds" underneath the link).
