Why do you use it in passive voice?

This can be a silly question, but

[1]The employees will be paid a 15-month-salary.
[2]The employees will take a 15-month-salary.

Why do you express it in passive voice, leaving that in active voice?
Is there a special reason? To emphasize that the owner pays for 15-month-salary?

Thank you for your answer in advance.
