Why do we use fats, minerals?

What is the problem with the singular form?

Top answer

We do not use 'fat' because 'fat' as a singular (actually, uncountable) form refers only to the general symptom of obesity, not the various dietary substances. We do not use 'mineral' as a singular because the body employs many kinds of them.
