Why do we use another here, but not the other?

  1. There are three pieces of fruit in my basket. One is an orange, one is a lemon and another is an apple.
  2. My mom speaks two languages. One is English and another one is French.

Can anyone explain why we use here another, not the other? Thanks in advance.
