Why do people often believe that poetry is just about rhyming words?
Hi all,
this is just a hypothetical question, just something to think about and perhaps to discuss. I've noticed that most writers, especially new ones, seem to believe that poetry is all about rhyming words. In my opinion, rhymes are great for humorous poems like satires. Rhyming deeper, emotional poems can only be done well by a very skilled poet. Often, a writer seems to focus so much on rhyming that the meaning of the poem gets lost in the long run. I think writing rhymes is a nice game and perhaps good training to widen one's vocabulary, but I don't think that it is the main ingredient in writing poems.
What's your opinion?

Hi, I think the important thing in any poems is the meaning of the words but if you said that meaning in rhyming words it 'll be great and make you wonder how that poet deliver the meaning in such a great rhyming way unless if the meaning is great but not in rhyming words it 'll be like an article and that's okay also although I think rhyming words without a deep meaning is useless and don't make any sense

That's optional. Everyone has their own style, but for me who was heavily inspired by a rap song, rhyme is quite a must.
