Why different tenses?

Hi. Would you please tell me why the passive past tense "was captured" was used after the name "Jerusalem" in one and the past perfect passive (I hope that is the correct term) "had been taken" was used after the word "we" in another in this Good News Translation of the Bible verse, Ezekiel 40:1?

(Good News Translation) Ezekiel 40:1

1 It was the tenth day of the new year, which was the twenty-fifth year after we had been taken into exile and the fourteenth year after Jerusalem was captured. On that day I felt the powerful presence of the Lord, and he carried me away.

Hi, In your sentence there are two distinct events which didn't take place at the same time. Since there was a time gap between the events, the past perfect was used for the earlier event (had been taken) and the simple past for the subsequent event (was captured).
