Hi

1. You bought yourself a new mattress, why don't you sleep on it?

2. You bought youreslf a new mattress, why are you not sleeping on it?

3. Why are you not writing what the teacher is saying? OR Why don't you write what the teacher is saying?

Which questions are correct, the ones in the present simple or continuous?

I would expect the intended meanings of those particular sentences to be the same.

However, one thing you might want to keep in mind is that the question "why don't you (do something)" is often used to make a suggestion. So, sentence 1 could possibly be used to mean two different things. It could be a suggestion, or it could be a straightforward question asking for t
