Is it correct to use "so" to answer "why" questions if I want don't want to use "because" as usual.

e.g. Why are you late?

I missed the bus, so I am late.

e.g. Why are you late?

I missed the bus, so I am late.

It's not a natural reply.The most natural reply is simply 'I missed the bus'. You don't need to say 'because'.
