Why "admitted losing" is right?

I took an online test, according to which "He admitted to lose the client" is wrong and "He admitted losing the client" is correct.Could anyone tell me why?

It is just a property of the verb "admit", which does not take a "to" infinitive as an argument. "admit to" is possible, but it must be followed by a noun. htm which includes this and numerous other examples.
