why "a first"?

Hello! Could you help me, please? I always thought that the word "first" is always used with the definite article "the". But recently I read a sentence in the Student's book "Language Leader Advanced" (p.24, ex.1g) where they use the indefinite article. Why? Is it a mistake or just a special rule? The sentence is the following:

Write a first draft to include your introduction, main body and conclusion.
