Who/whom

Please tell me which is correct here.

It's With whom can I go out ...? so you might think it should be Whom can I go out with ...? But when Whom occurs alone at the beginning of a question, it is reduced to Who ...?

It's With whom can I go out ...? so you might think it should be Whom can I go out with ...? But when Whom occurs alone at the beginning of a question, it is reduced to Who ...?

To native speakers, Whom ...? sounds excessively formal. My guess is that only one speaker in several thousand would say it.
