Whose usage in this sentence

hi:
i'd like to know which one of these sentences is correct:

"it was no surprise whose face was on that sketch."

"whose face was on that sketch was no surprise."

"it was no surprise whose face it was on that sketch."

even if none is, please let me know.

Your first and third sentences exhibit cleft sentences. That is probably what is confusing you.
