WHOSE

I really would like to know the difference between these two sentences using whose:

Whose bag is that?

Whose is that bag?

I've always learned to say the first one and not the second!

Thanks!

There's really almost no difference at all. Here are a couple of comments on subtleties.

Whose bag is that?
'Whose' is an adjective.

CliveWhose bag is that?
'Whose' is an adjective. And 'that' is a pronoun.
The focus of the question is on the bag.

Whose is that bag?

So "whose that bag?" is uncorrect ? I found this question in an italian test, as key answer!

Is incorrect, it needs a verb.

As it was mentioned above, both varaints are fine:

1. Whose is that bag?
2. Whose bag is that?
