Whom or who

I consulted an attorney _________ I met in Miami.

The online test says that the correct option is 'whom', but my learning says that whom always follows a preposition.

Who is correct, please?

Whom is technically correct because the relative pronoun is the object of met , but in informal English who is commonly used. I consider both forms correct. CB
