Whole/most?!

Hi.
In the following test
---- histories are concerned with causality, that is, why certain outcomes happened as they did, and how they are linked to earlier events.

they gave most for the blank. I think Whole might also be the answer. What do you think?

'Whole' is not incorrect grammar, but ''most' is more natural and makes more sense in terms of meaning. Clive

My experience of reading histories tells me that most of them , but not all of them, try to explain why things happened.

Sometimes they just state the facts.
