Whole plate or full plate

1. He ate two whole plates of pasta.

2. He ate two full plates of pasta.


Are the sentences above correct? Do they mean the same. If 'yes', which is more correct?

Both are correct and mean the same. One is not any more correct than the other.

They do mean the same, but with the first sentence I get a picture of the person eating two actual plates. I would use "full".
