whodunit

whodunit = a book, film etc about a murder case, in which you do not find out who killed the person until the end.
Please help me. The definition is not clear to me. Do we find out who killed the person at the end of the film or not? I do not know why this definition is ambiguous to me.Does it mean' we never know the murderer'?
Thanks in advance.

No, it doesn't. Look at the definition one more time: '... you don't find ... until the end'. It means that you will know the name of the culprit at the very end of the story/movie/etc.
