Who writes these crappy angry commercials?

I don't know, but I just don't like some of these commercials...I call them angry commercials.
1. The creepy Burger King guy who is in a dorm room pulling a prank ona sleeping college student.
(The Burger King guy is altogether creepy to me in all the commercials. It also has "The Angry Whopper commercial, where the Whopper is raised to be angry by a sadistic farmer.)
2. Chester the Cheese Cheetah who encourages revenge of annoying yeteasily ignored acquaintances by smearing cheesy finger residues on their clothing articles.
3. The financial institution that gives kids a oty or some otherarticle kids like, just to have it taken away from them because they don't meet some contract small-print requirements. (The kids disappointment on their faces does not look like acting to me).
4. The creepy Geico Money Eyes thing.
5. Castrol Oil's "Think with your dipstick" guy, who goes aroundwhipping people with a dipstick whether they checked their dipstick or not.
Whereas, Hyundai does it a bit different, and in my opinion more effectively with it's "angry bosses commercial" that has bosses of competing automobile companies yelling at their mangers for losing a prestigious automobile award to Hyundai.
As do the Mac vs. PC commercials.
I just don't get the appeal of anger to sell things. Give me the AFLAC duck any day.

All those commercials are made to appease the big time stock holders and the boards of directors.

I'm sure it's the same research they did ages ago that prompted all the Kill the Bugs Dead ads for RAID, where happy housewives were killing surrogate husbands. Sorry, don't have a link for it.

I'd look for these to be replaced in the coming year or two.

I think the Burger King is supposed to creep us out, like body part horror films that always show up in times of war and economic crises.

I no longer believe the Geico Gecko voice is Ricky Gervaise, but I did for a while. I'm a 10+ year Geico customer, because of their rates, not the gecko

I actually agree with you that it does have something to do with political and/or cultural currents.
And this adds to my disturbance of them.
People seem to be very angry about anything and everything, but about precisely what, I think few really have a clue and wind up taking their anger out on anyone they think they can get away with it.

Personally I would never buy any of these products that use angry commercials to sell themselves because it tells me in a round-about- way that those same companies are angry and are run by angry execs that have angry employees, and in turn have angry customers.

I agree that it's a great idea not to buy stuff from folks who are exploiting the angry times (except the Geico cavemen, for some reason they seem different in tone or cynicism, but that might just be me).

But I believe those execs are angry. Usually it's the ad companies that design the campaigns, and they're just doing it for a buck like me and the ladies in the Tenderloin

They study this stuff and know what to exploit, and when (if they're good at their jobs). There are precious few companies that treat advertising as if just making a better product is enough. However, it's not any better to buy from a hired assassin than it is from a rage-killer, hence the boycott is still a good idea, imho.

Fear sells. Insurance companies know this. Once I saw an ad for homeowner
insurance. The ad had a sinister figure in a cloak shaped like a flame putting
his arms around a house.
I thought the AFLAC bird was a parrot...on their radio commercials at least.

No, these are obviously other angry people.
Angry seems to be the in thing currently and for the last few years. (And people wonder why Rio got the Olympics? Rio is a fun place as far as I know. The US is just an angry place. I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would want to visit any city in the US, but that's a whole nother story.)
Another commercial I found was the chewing gum guys who never has to stop chewing the same piece of gum because of it's long lasting flavor, so the gum company sends out hit squads of various kinds to beat him up until he spits it out.

Who writes these crappy angry commercials?
