"Who" referring to animals

Hello. I'm going to teach kids the topic "animals". Tell me please if I'm right:
1. If I say "he/she" talking about their pets but use "it" talking about other animals (e.g. a tiger, a cow etc.)
2. If I want to ask which of the animals, for example, jumps through the trees (it's a monkey:)), should I say "Who jumps through the trees?". Isn't it incorrect?! Or what should we use instead of "who?" Which/what sound strange
