Grammar

who or whom?

Hello

Somebody please help.

I read a following sentence in a book and a few questions came to mind.

..............................................................................................
Your online friends may not always be friends offline
-and you may not be exactly whom you claim to be, either.
..............................................................................................

1) Is “whom” used in the middle of the sentence grammatically okay?
Can I use “who” instead of “whom?”

2) What is the grammatical function of “whom?”
Is it a relative pronoun (with the antecedent ‘the person etc.’ omitted) or an interrogative?

Thanks in advance.
