Try a wider search. She's the nurse in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and a Google search will find you lots of information about the character. (Hint: it's not a compliment to be likened to her, in most circumstances.)

Nurse Mildred Ratched is a major character, the big nurse, in Ken Kesey's novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest .
She is depicted as an unpleasant, domineering, sadistic, authoritarian figure. Her surname suggests something metallic, cold, and irritating.

The novel, however, is told through the eyes of an inmate at a psychiatric institutions, and it is not always entirely clear whether his perceptions are reliable and realistic or paranoid and delusional.

Nurse Ratched is not a sympathetic figure and a "lifesaving version of Nurse Ratched" is a puzzling figure. Without the context I can only guess, but I think he means she is very strict in enforcing some kind of health regimen diet or medication on him.

It's been thirty+ years since I read the novel, but I thought there were some tip offs that he was delusional in the first few paragraphs. Which does not entirely contradict your point.
Later I spent ten years at the Austin State Hospital. True enough, I was on staff, but after five years or so it becomes a distinction without a difference.

Head nurse in a ward at a sanitarium in the novel the others have mentioned.

Her name can be pronounced "ratchet", "wretched" or "ratshit", depending on how you feel about her nursing qualities.
Louise Fletcher got an oscar for portraying her in the movie, and it was an excellent portrayal. Strangely coincidental: Last night on Larry King Live, guest Angela Lansbury admitted that the Nurse Ratched role was the one role she admitted not being totally happy to have turned down, since it won the oscar.
She would still turn it down today, she said, because she just couldn't take to the character.
(Yes, I know the statuette is named after a person, and is capitalized in M-W Online, but I don't see why the man should be immortalized.)
