Who is her father?Help me

A paragraph from news , "David Simmonite, 60, of Bradford, was jailed for four months in January last year after claiming that a French friend was responsible for a speeding offence committed by his daughter. Police found that the Frenchman had been at home with a kidney complaint at the time". I don't know the "daughter" 's father is David or his French friend . And how to translate the"was jailed for four months in January last year after claiming that a French friend was responsible for a speeding offence committed by his daughter". I know the meaning of each word of above paragraph, but my grammar is poor, so sometimes I can't comprehand the meaning of the whole sentence or paragraph.

Sorry for this simple question. Thank you for your help.

" But the police found out that Pierre was home sick when the car was seen speeding, and so the police knew Pierre was not be the driver of the speeding car.

Well, you're very welcome, but since my daughters are only 7 and 9, I'm not ready to be a grandma yet!
