Who are his parents or who his parents are

I know that according to grammar the following applies...

- Who are his parents?
- I don't know who his parents are. (1)

But I think the in every day speech with the verb BE the subject following the verb is common.

I don't know who are his parents. (2)

Which is more frequently used in English, 1 or 2?
