Who am I to turn my back...

Lex: Everything led me to this moment.

Clark: And we're both here. We're in that moment.
And what happens next is your choice.
But no one is controlling you, Lex.
No one is forcing you to do this.

Lex: Who am I to turn my back
on my fellow man...especially after you
turned your back on me?
Why not take my revenge on you
after you turned your back on me?

I'm a little unclear here. Can whatever Lex is contemplating doing to Clark be considered as helping his "fellow man" (not Clark, but other fellow men) in some way? Otherwise it doesn't make sense to me.

  • "After you turned your back on me" indicates that he is seeking revenge, but "who am I to turn my back on my fellow man" sounds like he is planning to commit a worthy act.

Well Lex is prejudiced that Clark is an alien from another planet who
wants to destroy all of mankind. And he finds an orb that he can control Clark with.
Then Lex says: You hold the future of the entire planet in your hands. I'm here
to take it back.

Then yes, I would say this is (yet another) clever bit of wordplay by the writers of this show.

Les is refusing to turn his back on his fellow man - he will help them by confounding Clark's evil plans. And he apparently has extra motivation for doing so since Clark "turned his back" on him, Lex.
