who

Hello,

1. Who is the wind hunting in the sky?

2. What is the wind hunting in the sky?

3. To whom is the wind hunting in the sky?

Which one is correct?

Top answer

I think it depends on the answer. If the answer is someone, then "who" is correct. If the answer is something, then which is correct.

3. is incorrect. Otherwise, as Ksenya said, it depends whether it is a person (who) or a thing (what).

Hello,

It is an animal. Then which one.

Thanks

If it is an animal, then use "what."

(As a side note, technically, it would have been "whom" if it were a person, since it would be the object of "hunting." But in practice, few people would say it.)

The above must be rephrased IMO this way, should you want to keep it:

For whom is the wind hunting in the sky?
