White noise

Hi

Is the term white noise common among native speakers?

White noise = the unpleasant noise made by a radio / television when it is not receiving the correct signal

Thanks,

Tom

It is a relatively technical term. I think the majority of native speakers would know more or less what it meant, but probably they would not use it much in everyday situations. In your case, people would more likely talk of "hiss" or "crackle" or "interference".
