Whirl and swirl

could you tell me the difference between whirl and swirl?
A dictionary says,

whirl :to move or go in a circle or curve especially with force or speed

? The cars were whirling around the track.

swirl:to move in circles or to cause (something) to move in circles

? The water swirled around/down the drain.

the only difference between them seems to be the power of moving in circle.
but I feel I don't understand it fully. So I'd like to know the nuance between them.

thank you in advance !

You're correct. The only real difference is in the speed of the circular movement. Apparently, something that is whirling is turning more rapidly than something that is swirling.
