While vs When vs As

While I was driving a car
When I was driving a car
As I was driving a car

Could you tell me what's the main difference between these three conjunction and when is the right time do we actually use these ?

Top answer

All three may have the same meaning of "during," but "while" and "as" have other usages as conjunctions, so you have to take care not to introduce any ambiguity. "While" can mean "whereas," introducing a contrast: He was driving a golf cart, while I was driving a car. "As" can mean "because": As I was driving a car, I couldn't have possibly have leaned down to tie my shoes.
