Grammar

while v meanwhile

Hi Teachers,
Can I use the same subject with 'meanwhile' ? for instance,
"I was waiting for Jeremy. Meanwhile, I heard a loud noise."

and also can I omit subject after meanwhile ? for instance,
"One LPGA standout, meanwhile, isn't waiting around to make her first 2011 start."

Thanks in advance.

Meanwhile is an adverb; sometimes used as a transition word (conjunctive adverb). It does not have a subject. The first sentence is fine.
