Essay & Composition Writing

While some people believe that more new and wider roads should be created to reduce traffic congestion, the others think that building of train and subway line is more effective. Discuss both view and give your opinion.

There is a hot debate between 2 groups of people concerning about traffic congestion in many cities. While some people consider that government should spend money for building new and wider roads to limit traffic jam in the city, I do agree with those who believe that traffic congestion can only be deterred effectively by building train and subway lines. In this essay, discussions about this controversial issue will be given out.

Admitedly, there are strong reasons to ensure that building new and wider roads will diminish traffic congestion, but only in the short term. Firstly, the existing roads, especially in the city, which are inadequate to deal with the increasing number of cars. Nowadays, people are overdepending on using car for commuting because of its convenience, and this trend results in serious traffic jams on rush hour. Beside that, as many cities have expanded, more people tend to prefer living on the outskirts, so they have to commute to work or study by their cars. Therefore, new and wider roads must be created to cope with the growing of traffic. Secondly, even outside the city, people have to confront with traffic jam. Hence, new interstate or highway roads are essential to enable drivers to reach their destination in time without facing any traffic problems.

On the other hand, improving public means of transportation such as train or subway lines is more potential solution to the problem of traffic congestion. Firstly, to adopt with the growing of population in most of countries, rails or metro services play an important role in relieving pressure on existing roads. This is absolutely beneficial, when citizens are more willing to travel by public means because it is faster and more convenient with lower cost. Secondly, a metro network can help to deter fatal traffic accidents as it was contructed underground on their own lines. Therefore, it would be a pratical and popular option to support people in commuting, even a far distance.

Taking everything into consideration, I would argue that government budget should be allocated for construction of train and subway lines in order to ruduce traffic congestion.
