Which would it be? please1 Alex sleeps while he sings.2 Alex sings while he sleeps  3 Alex sleeps while he is singing.4 Alex sings while he's sleeping.I'd say 2 and 4.1 The cat miaowed while it walked/while it was walking.  2 The cat walked while it miaowed/wile it was miaowing.I'd say 1 WHILE IT WALKED and WHILE IT WAS WALKING.1 The cat walked while it peed./while it was peeing.2 The cat peed while it walked/was walking.Here I don't know which Id say?thank you

If Alex and "he" are the same person, all the sentences are very odd because no one can sleep and sing at the same time.

The action described in the while clause usually takes a longer time than the action described in the main clause. The walking of the cat presumably lasted longer than the miaowing and consequently No. 1 is better. The choice between the simple tense (walked) and the continuous tense (was walking) depends on the circumstances and the notion you want to convey.

If it was customary for the cat to miaow while it walked, the simple tense is correct. If you are painting a picture with words and the reference is to a single instance of this happening, the continuous tense is justified.

Another example of while: The phone rang while I was taking a shower.

Taking a shower may last ten minutes but the phone probably only rings for a minute or two.
