While or Whilst?

When do we use while and whilst?
I've been looking for answers on the internet and all I'm seeing are people's opinions on it and not actual official answers.

In AmE, we don’t.

in BrE, "whilst" is interchangeable with "while" in meaning, but it sounds more formal and is less common.
