while + ~ing

StartFragment>

Therefore alternative fuels contribute to a degree of a nation's energy independence, while offering economically attractive prospects to the farmers in developing countries.

Does it make sense to use 'while +~ing' in this sentence?

'while offering' should mean ' and the alternative fuels offer ~'

I also don't know if 'a degree of a nation's energy independece' would be a right expression.

  • Seems fine to me.
  • 'while offering' should mean ' and the alternative fuels offer ~' Basically, yes.
  • However, 'while offering' suggests more connection between the two ideas, and also makes clearer that the main clause is the more important of the two ideas.
