While I prepare (the) dinner/While I get dinner ready

1) Why don't you take a quick shower while I prepare (the) dinner?

2) Why don't you take a quick shower while I get (the) dinner ready?

- Are either correct and natural? Should 'the' be added?

- Does one of the sentences sound like the dinner is closer to could be served than the other? If you know what I mean. Does "while I get" imply that the speaker is farther in the process with the dinner than "while I prepare"?
