While he drove to work

Thanks a lot GPY!

Just this question, please

if both of the actions in the sentences were actions that might take approximately the same amount of time to do, then the use of the simple past tense for both would suggest that they happened concurrently. how can we use a punctual action (simple past) with a durative action (simple past) in while clause?

Tara2 how can we use a punctual action (simple past) with a durative action (simple past) in while clause? I'm not sure I understand the question -- or understand how it is different. Isn't "John heard about the accident while he drove to work" an example of how to do it?
