Hi,

Can I ask you a further question?

"While studying in the UK, I had a girl friend."

A conjunction can join 2 sentences together.

"I had a girl friend" is a sentence.
"studying in the UK" is not a sentence.

So, both sentence 1 and sentence 2 are wrong.

Agree?

Thanks

Hi,

A conjunction can join 2 sentences together.

It can do that, but it canalso join other things. You need to review a more complete definition of the word 'conjunction'.

so, this sentence is not true, isn't it?
we have to write: " while I was studying in the UK, I had a girl friend" instead?
thanks so much.

Hi,

"While studying in the UK, I had a girl friend."

This is fine. I didn't say it wasn't. You are the one who suggested it wasn't.
