I would favor commas after drunk, dancing, and confusion.

I think one would hear confused much more often than in confusion.

Each of the sentences has a (common, acceptable) ellipted form:
While [he was] drunk, he broke down.
While [she was] dancing, she began to lose herself.

Is that correct?

I'd have said that the first two are WHILSTas the ST replaces past participle of subject form from verb 'to be' eg: Whilst (he was) drunk he broke down; whilst (she was) dancing she began to lose herself...the third one is While because can't add subject form of verb 'to be'. Can anybody confirm this is correct??

Whilst and while are synonymous and used in the same structures. The former is still in use in BrE, while it is rare in AmE.
