Which would you use?

I am sure most of you remember how the world looked different to you when you wore/put on glasses for the first time. However, the novelty wore off after a while.

My dictionary says that "put on" emphasizes "the act/motion," while "wear" emphasizes "the state." In this kind of context, I wonder which sounds right.
