Which way do you phrase it?

How would you say this?

I don't know if it's because I'm sick that my throat hurts when I drink something cold or if it's just because it's cold that my throat hurts.

I don't know if my throat hurts because the drink is cold or my throat hurts because it's just cold.

Thank you

I didn't put a colon there, Regards, so why is it in the quote of my words? It is certainly wrong there.

Hi,

But I did. I think it's unreadable without the colon. You have to stop there.

Not possible. Look what follows your colon:

: because the drink is cold or my throat hurts because it's just cold.

Where is are the matrix clause elements (S and V) for the first dependent clause?

Hi,

You're right. It's correct without the colon. The sentence is quite long, so I got confused.

Time to take a break!

Yes, Alex's sentences sometimes have that effect on me, too.
