Which version of English is more common in West Europe, academically?

I would like to known, which version of English are small pupils in West European countries taught?
American or British, or something else?

Here are the countries expecially in question.

1. France
2. Germany
3. Spain
4. Portugal
5. Italy

I don't know. Either will do. I prefer American English. It's the majority - 70% of all native English speakers are from USA, 16% from UK. It's also spelled better. Note that this is the opinion of an American.
