Which + verb or ing clause?

They drove round with the door open, which showed a bomb on the back seat.

'revealed' is probably better. But does the above still work using which and using showed?

Or should it be 'showing'?

I don't like the whole casting-- there is confusion about whether it is the door, the open door, or the whole activity that reveals the bomb. The sentence needs reframing.

I agree. Could you please give me an alernative? I'm struggling to avoid the ambiguity.

Don't subordinate the bomb-- it's the more important, isn't it? Something like this, I suppose:

They drove round with the door open, and the bomb on the back seat was obvious/evident/clearly visible.
