Which tense should i use?

I was a teacher 5 years ago but not now.
Then which of the following sentence is grammatically correct?

provides, you are no longer a teacher so this would be incorrect because you are not being provided anything

I disagree - even if you are no longer teaching, you still have the experience.

My experience in the Navy provides me with plenty of fodder for good stories to tell.

However, uktous, it's an odd sentence. Of course experience teaching provides teaching skills.
