Which tense in a book review

Hello,
I am writing a book summary (a small review).
If I understand well, I should use the present simple when I am describing the plot, for example :

1. One day the boy's toy car breaks down.

But what about such a type of sentences:
2. One day the children meet an old man. He says that he has left his house and he is looking for new friends.
Is it correct?
3. Next day the children explore the town and the railway station near their house.
4. Alice is looking at/looks at the trees - they are moving down a hill towards the road! what's more the next bus comes/is coming in a few minutes! (can we use the present continuous in a book summary to add some dramatic effect?)

Would be grateful for your help,
Thank you!
Kind regards,

Thank you...I have just one final question about the tenses used in book reviews...

If I use the present simple, I understand that I should use it also in such sentences at the end of the text:
1. Would you like to know if the dogs have more adventures? Do they find their owners? Read the next chapters of the book!

or it would be better to say:
2. Wou
