Which sounds better?

Which sounds better?
(1) the Dublin city center
(2) the central part of Dublin

A friend of mine wrote (1), but it sounded a little bit weird to me, but I'm not so sure.

The article in (1) is not needed. "Dublin city center" (no article) is very common and normal. "the central part of Dublin" is correct English too.
