[which size of a vase] or [which size vase]

(1) Which size of a vase do you want: 5", 6" or 7?

(2) Which size vase do you want: 5", 6" or 7"?

Most of my non-native English speaking friends think (2) is correct. However, (1) sounds better to the rest of us. Please tell me which one is correct. Thank you very much.
