Which sentence us correct/natural

“Norms are created by society rather than occurring naturally.”

”Norms are created by society rather than naturally occurring.”

Top answer

Either sentence is gramatically correct and understandable. However, the first sentence sounds better to my ear since adverbs (such as "naturally") more often follow the verb ("occurring") rather than the reverse.
