“We were anxious for you” is from LDOCE, (http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/anxious). I couldn’t find in any other dictionary where ‘anxious for’ is used and the meaning is ‘worri

Worried about you is by far the more common way to say this, but anxious may be used also. Like GPY, I prefer #2, though to my surprise they seem to be about equal in popularity overall.
