I feel strong = I think I am powerful (physically or mentally)
I feel strongly = I have a deep emotion

Of course "strong" and "strongly" have related meanings. But "strong" is an adjective, and "strongly" is an adverb.
I will simplify my "strong" sentence and try to better explain the difference between "strongly" and "strong".

'We feel less strongly about that than they do.' "strongly" is an adverb modifying the verb 'feel'.
'We are less strong than we were before.' "strong" is an adjective modifying the pronoun 'we'.

So the two sentences above are talking about different things. And your two short 'sentences' in your first post are also talking about two different things.
