Which sentence is correct

Question

Taking a physics class helped me in calculus.

Taking a physics class helped me later in calculus.
Taking a physics class helped me later when I took a calculus class.

Taking a physics class has helped me in calculus.
Taking a physics class has helped me later in calculus.
Taking a physics class has helped me later when I took a calculus class.

If all of them are correct, please tell me the difference.

All OK except the last two. later and later when I took ... are both references to definite time, which is not compatible with the present perfect tense.

The difference between the first and the fourth is that in the fourth one we infer that you are still studying calculus. What you tell us in the first one could have happened when you took calculus 40 years ago.

How come?
When I answered this question there were only three first sentences. Now there are three more. So my answer 'all are fine' is not correct and, sorry to say Mr Mercyful_fate, I'm afraid I have been had.
